Davos is that place in Switzerland where people who own private jets go to tell you why you should feel bad about driving a car to work. It is a big party for people who think they are better than you. And right in the middle of this mess, we have Donald Trump and Mark Carney. One is a guy who puts his name on everything in big gold letters. The other is a guy who spent his whole life telling banks what to do. Neither of them has ever had a real job in their lives. Now they are fighting over a club that does not even exist yet. It is the kind of fight you see in a preschool, but with more expensive suits.

Trump had this idea. He calls it the Board of Leaders. Sometimes people call it the Board of Peace. It does not matter what you call it. It is just a list of names. Trump likes lists. He likes being the boss of the list. He invited Mark Carney to be on this list. Carney is Canadian. He used to run the Bank of England. He is the kind of guy who speaks in a way that makes you feel like you forgot to do your homework. He is very proud of being smart. He is so smart that he went to Davos to give a speech. In that speech, he said some mean things about Trump. He did not use bad words, because guys like Carney use big, boring words to be mean. He basically said Trump’s ideas are old and bad.

Trump did not like that. Trump does not like it when people do not say he is the best. So, what did he do? He did the only thing he knows how to do. He took away the toy. He said Carney is no longer allowed in his club. He withdrew the invitation. It is like a kid saying you cannot come to his birthday party because you said his shoes look funny. This is what world leaders do now. They do not fix problems. They do not help people. They just sit on mountains and take away each other's fake gold stars. It would be funny if these people did not actually run the world. But they do. And that is why we are all in trouble.

Let’s look at Carney for a second. This guy acts like he is the hero of the planet. He talks about the climate and the future. But he is a banker. A banker is just a guy who moves money around until some of it sticks to his hands. He thinks he is better than Trump because he uses quiet words and knows how to read a graph. But he is just as hungry for power. He wants to be the one telling everyone how to live. He wanted to be on that board until he realized he could get more attention by acting like he was too good for it. It is a game. He plays the part of the smart adult, but he is just another guy looking for a high-profile seat at the table.

Then you have Trump. He treats the government like it is a reality show. To him, being a leader is about who likes you and who hates you. He thinks a Board of Leaders will solve things just because he picked the names. It is all about the brand. If you are on the list, you are a winner. If you talk back, you are a loser. There is no middle ground. There is no actual work being done. It is just a giant circle of people patting each other on the back or stabbing each other in the front. He wants a board of people who will nod their heads whenever he speaks. Carney would not nod, so Carney is out. It is very simple. It is also very stupid.

This whole fight shows us why everything is broken. On one side, you have the loud guy who thinks everything is a deal. On the other side, you have the quiet guy who thinks everything is a math problem. Both of them think they are the only ones who can save us. But they are both part of the same problem. They live in a world where Davos matters. They live in a world where being on a board is more important than actually doing something. While they trade barbs in the snow, the rest of us are just trying to pay for groceries. They do not care about that. They care about who got the best seat at the lunch table.

We are supposed to pick a side. We are supposed to think Trump is a hero for standing up to the elites, or we are supposed to think Carney is a hero for standing up to a bully. But here is the truth: they are both bullies. They just use different tools. One uses a hammer and the other uses a scalpel. At the end of the day, you are still the one getting hit. This Board of Peace or Board of Leaders is just a fancy way to say ‘Group of People Who Think They Are Important.’ Whether Carney is on it or not does not change a single thing for you. It just gives these two something to talk about while they drink their expensive water and look down at the rest of humanity from their mountain top. It is all a show. And the tickets are way too expensive for what we are getting.
